According to Dr Erin Michos, (director of preventive cardiology at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine), belly fat (visceral fat) puts you are more of a risk than total body fat.
In normal weight and overweight adults, a waistline greater than 35 inches in women and 40 inches in men is associated with an increased risk of high cholesterol, high blood pressure and cardiovascular disease.
Researchers have found that men with a waist circumference greater than 43 inches had more than a 50% greater risk of death during a 14-year period than men whose waists measured 37 inches. Findings for women was an 80% greater risk of death associated with a waist circumference of 37 inches compared with 27.5 inches.
Large Waistlines Are Unhealthy
