Everyone has their own favorites when it comes to the best oil for 6.7 Cummins Diesel engines, or any Diesel engines for that matter. Below is what I use…
My first choice has always been Rotella T5 synthetic blend, and I always use the Mopar MO285 oil filter than can be purchased at Walmart much cheaper than from the dealer.
If you haven’t purchased, or tried to purchase oil for Diesel engines lately, then you may not realize there is a war going on right now with many Diesel engine oils. Apparently, there is a shortage on many of the ingredients needed to produce the oils for Diesel engines.
After much research, and referring to what Cummins corporation recommends for all Cummins engines, I’ve purchased their #1 recommended oil. See below…
Valvoline Premium Blue 15w-40 is endorsed and recommended by Cummins, so that’s what I’ve purchased it from TSC (Tractor Supply) and using now, and it’s all because I cannot find what I normally use and have always used. TSC is the only place around close to me that I could find it…and just like everywhere else, their shelves was empty of everything too. They has 2 of these Valvoline Premium Blue 2.5 gallon jugs, and I bought them both.
After so much research I’ve found many articles and more information than I care to share here, but all in all, below is the top oils recommended for Cummins and all other Diesel engines.
- Valvoline Premium Blue 15w-40
- Rotella T6 5w-40
- Valvoline Premium Blue fully synthetic 5w-40
- Rotella T5 synthetic blend 15w-40
- Rotella T4 10w-30
After all of the reviews and information that the wonderful internet offers us, my findings are all above, and I’ve shared what I’m going with, simply because of the shortages with Rotella and many other brands right now. I will share my thoughts on this new engine oil once I’ve had time and miles on it.
Below is another option for more life and performance from your Cummins engine. Adding 11qts of the Valvoline 15w-40 and 1qt of Lucas oil stabilizer, plus the Mopar MO-285 oil filter, you will be set to go for another 15,000 miles before the next oil change.
On the flip side, I guess it’s always good to have a backup plan. So at least this way, I now know what I can use that is as good as what I’ve always used. Better possibly? Well, time will tell…and I will for sure let you know right here on this website/blog page.
Best Oil for 6.7 Cummins Diesel Engines
In closing, the #1 Cummins Diesel engine oil that is recommend by Cummins Corporation themselves…and endorsed by them, is the Valvoline Premium Blue 15w-40.
