I wanted to share exactly how we are edging oak boards into usable lumber on our TimberKing Sawmill.
This is how we do all species of wood on the sawmill. This is the first cuts off of the logs, and sometimes it may be deeper in the logs to get into good solid lumber, depending on the quality of the logs.
Edging Oak Boards Into Usable Lumber
Most people skip this step due to the extra work it takes. Instead, they throw it into a slab pile for firewood, or “what they call junk”. Don’t get me wrong, we also have a slab pile, but it is boards not good for lumber, or it is slabs with bark…(the first cuts). Our piles we cut down into the length we need for our outdoor wood boiler and all of our slab piles are put to good use.

The picture above (to the right of piles), is what came from the edging I shared in pictures and in the video above. Edging really does pay off!
Is there work involved with a sawmill? Of course there is. The work, is edging boards, stacking and stickering the lumber that comes off of the sawmill, taking good care of your sawmill, and many steps back and forth on the steps mentioned above. It’s much better than being a slave to a 9 to 5 job. It’s much better than being a number and not knowing your jobs future, or being laid off with no income.
Can You Make Money With A TimberKing Sawmill?
Yes, you can make money with a TimberKing sawmill, or with any sawmill. How much can you make? That’s up to you! Honestly, it’s just like anything else, it’s what you put into it, yields what you get out of it.
The only thing we have that would be called waste, is the sawdust that our TimberKing Sawmill produces.
Always do your best,
