Today was another day of milling 22’ oak beams with my TimberKing sawmill. This 2220 portable sawmill can cut up to 25’ in length and up to 39” diameter, so needless to say, it’s a Beast!

There are so many sawmills on the market, and all of them have good points and bad points. Most all of them have the claim, of being an absolute “beast”. I’m sure you’ve seen them advertised on Facebook and other places, claiming to be the best and being the beast.
So What Is A Beast Sawmill?
Well, if you are referring to a portable sawmill, then I would have to place my money on my TimberKing 2220 Portable Mill. It came standard with a Kubota 49hp turbocharged diesel engine and it’s fully hydraulic. This mill as mentioned above, cuts up to 25’ length and up to 39” diameter logs. The only portable mill that is larger, would be the TimberKing 2520. It has a Kubota 65hp turbocharged diesel engine, one more log turner, one more log dog and one more log stop than mine does. It cuts the same lengths and diameter as my 2220 does. Both of these mills have the Advanced Setworks Computer Systems, that give you a great deal of automation and very precise cuts, at the push of a button.

These two mills mentioned above would be the perfect candidates for actual “BEAST” portable sawmills. No other portable sawmill that I’m aware of, has these same, or even equivalent features that I’ve mentioned. Yes, they may be cheaper, but you always get what you pay for. TimberKing isn’t known for being cheap, they are known for being tough as heck, dependable, top notch quality, and made in the USA!
Non Portable Beast Sawmill
If you want a cheaper sawmill, and you aren’t concerned with it being portable, then check out the TimberKing 6000. This sawmill cuts up to 60” diameter logs and you can add as many frame sections as you want to get your desired lengths. This mill can be ordered with Kubota diesel, or the new 37hp EFI gas engine, and it can also be ordered with the Setworks computer for faster cutting and more precise cuts.

No doubt, there are many sawmills that could have milled the beams and the 2×6 lumber I milled today, but how fast are they, how precise, and how many times did they have to stop to work on them, and how many times did they have to stop and fuel up? I milled all afternoon today and didn’t even use a half tank of diesel fuel. I cut as fast as I want and never have to worry about bogging down.
When it comes to milling 22’ oak beams with my TimberKing sawmill, or 25’ beams, or logs that will max my mill out, I don’t have to worry about the sawmill handling what I throw at it, or not having enough power, or wasting all my time with a tape measure on every single cut. As I’ve shown above, all of the necessary features needed are already in my TimberKing 2220 Sawmill.
Always do your best,
Mike Pilcher
