Have you even wondered what could possibly be the best sawmill blade lube ever? I’m about to tell you what I’ve found, and it will probably sHOCk you!
Before I share this incredible sawmill blade lube, I first would like to tell you what I’ve been using before I discovered this one unique product. Water with dawn dish soak works good, but doesn’t keep the blade and guide rollers as clean as I’d like. Water with a good deal of pine sol works better than the dish soap, but still doesn’t keep the guide rollers as clean as I had hoped for. Diesel fuel works the best for keeping the blade and guide rollers really clean, and they don’t rust when not in use. However, I’ve found that when doing the walnut and cherry projects for customers, they do not want the smell or possible stains from diesel fuel.
So Now What Do You Use?
Here’s the all around best sawmill blade lube ever, especially when you cannot use diesel fuel. It’s called cotton picker spindle cleaner. Haha, right? You are probably laughing right about now 😂…but seriously, this stuff WORKS!!
Why Is Cotton Picker Spindle Cleaner So Good?
It is a specialized oil based water soluble product that removes plant sap, dirt and cotton fibers preventing build up on spindles. It boosts efficiency by reducing “wrapping,” enhancing lubrication, preventing rust, and keeping moisture pads clean, resulting in higher cotton.

Unlike soap and water, it offers superior cleaning from plant sap that build up over time. It offers lubrication and protection and acts as a lubricant to reduce wear on spindles while protecting against rust, corrosion, and oxidation, especially when the machine is idle. Many users of this Cotton Picker Spindle Cleaner have also noted and used this oil based, non flammable, water soluble agent, to help keep saw blades, guide rollers and other sawmill parts clean, and rust free. Folks in forestry forums and many other forums are raving about it. You can get it from John Deere and many other places, like Amazon, eBay, or just look it up on Google to find the best prices. Here is Schaeffers cotton picker spindle cleaner.
Here is a YouTube video sharing how well it works from the best sawmill operator out there.
Although it may not be quite as good as diesel, the cotton picker spindle cleaner is definitely better on your sawmill belts than diesel, and it’s non flammable!
Try it and see for yourself, and let me know what you think.
Always do your best,
