Yesterday I went and picked up some walnut logs from a guy that had trees fall from storms. I have request for mantles in all shapes and sizes, and different species, but walnut is always everyone’s favorite.

I’ve milled walnut, oak, ash, locust and cherry mantles over the last several years, but lately, it’s all walnut orders I’m getting. The price range is really dependent on how good the quality of the piece is, and the current market prices. Having said that, walnut isn’t worth what many thinks it is. Something that walnut is worth upwards of $10 per board foot. And that is if they have it to sell, but if they are buying, they want to get it super cheap. Really, it’s only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.
For me, I’m not in the business of taking advantage of someone. I’m going to make sure I get back what I have in it, plus my time. I will make someone good deals, I will still make some profit, but I will not take advantage of someone just because everyone else out there is.
