Today I was milling cherry logs that I harvested yesterday from Babes pasture…(our black angus heifer).
This first smaller log was from an upper portion of this large cherry tree, so j didn’t get near the tiger stripe pattern I was hoping for, using the quarter sawing method.

Cherry wood is fun to mill, and the grain is so gorgeous looking. It makes great furniture, cabinets, and much more. Cherry is definitely one of most carpenters favorites for woodworking projects.
Milling Cherry Logs – Quarter Sawing
Check out the pictures and let me know what you think about this Cherry lumber. Yesterday’s post was cutting down large cherry trees for sawmill – quarter sawing. This coming week I will start on the larger Cherry logs and using the quarter sawing, the larger logs will definitely show much more of the real effects of quarter sawing…the tiger striping.
Always do your best,
-Mike Pilcher
