More walnut logs ready for the sawmill – 2220 TimberKing fully hydraulic with upgrades.
When I purchased my TimberKing 2220, I hadn’t planned to add anymore upgrades. But after running so many large logs through it, I soon noticed I could be faster and more efficient with a few add ons/upgrades.

My friend Joel Gordon, who is the TimberKing dealer in Montana, and a very long time experienced sawyer, who gave me another drag back bar, and offered me many ideas that have proven very helpful, and more efficient.

Another upgrade/add on was, one more log stop at the very rear bunk of my 2220 mill. This rear log stop has helped me so much with these large diameter and long logs, especially the ones that are not perfect, and have knots, curves, etc.

A real big upgrade I did very early on after purchasing my 2220, was adding the 1-1/2” blades, which are not only wider than standard, but they are thicker. I had to add the larger guide rollers as well, but this has been well worth it, due to how much more life I get out of the blades, and have yet to break one. Before this upgrade, I was breaking blades on these monster walnut and oak logs. With the large blades, I added the double spring set up on the blades tensioner. This helped with stability and allows more even pressure on the bandsaw blade.
This blade upgrade was advice from another experienced friend in Oregon, who is a TimberKing deal on the west coast. None of these add ons/upgrade’s that I’ve done are necessary, but for me, they’ve helped my speed, efficiency and made my mill better. If I can get 2-3 times more blade life, which I have, then this blade upgrade was well worth it. The additional drag back bar has allowed me to drag back lumber much more effectively, especially by myself. The rear log stop was the best addition I’ve made so far. It was a total game changer for my mill.

Today with all the rains, I was only able to run about 4 hours, but was able to finish milling walnuts for a customer, plus get more walnuts ready for orders I have.
Walnut Logs Ready For The Sawmill – 2220 TimberKing
As you will see in the pictures below, I have many more walnut logs ready for the sawmill, and once I start in milling, I will also be doing more videos of different cuts and techniques, which I will add to the “Sawmill Videosi” page of this website.

My decision for the TimberKing 2220 sawmill was a great decision, and I couldn’t be happier with my mill. Just remember, the upgrades I do to my mill are for my needs, and these upgrades are in no way necessary for this mill, or any of the TimberKing line up. These upgrades are what I wanted and needed for what I do.
Always do your best,
-Mike Pilcher
