Today I was cutting down large cherry trees for the sawmill. One tree was rotten in the center and the other one was solid as a rock all the way through.
The rotten cherry tree has lots of numerous branch over the years and now I see why. The other tree was leaning bad, out over the creek, so it was a matter of time it was going to uproot, so I decided to go ahead and remove it, while it was still good.
This solid cherry tree will make some nice looking lumber. My plan is to quarter saw this one to get the best looking zebra stripe patterns possible. The quarter sawing is not something I do a lot, but it sure does make for beautiful lumber.

If you notice in the picture, Babe was supervising my work. Yeah, Babe is our once bottle baby, black angus heifer. She loves attention, and especially loves helping me anytime I’m in her pastures doing anything. Everyone that visits Pin Oaks Farm, and meets Babe, loves her!
If you are in the market for Walnut lumber, live edge slabs or mantles, then come visit us at the Pin Oaks Farm Sawmill. Once I get this Cherry from log to lumber, I will post pictures.
Talk soon,
